Marketing Online Is Supposed To Be Easy…
Don’t Let Technology Stand In Your Way
Welcome To Online Marketing
When you got involved in Online Marketing it was supposed to be easier than starting a traditional business. While it is true, you do have a much lower cost of entry than a traditional business; once you get started you quickly discover it’s not all rainbows and unicorns.
What you may not have realized is there is no magic software that you click a few buttons and money just floods into your bank account. Don’t we wish! But don’t be discouraged, the promises of the Internet Lifestyle and working from your laptop are all possible but to get to that point there are many challenges to overcome first. There are those pesky tech things that have to happen first to make all of those things possible..
You Need a Website
There are things such as… setting up websites. That sounds simple enough on the surface until you have a good look at what all is involved.
For example, you have to register a domain. That is www.yourwebsite.com Do you know which domain registrar is the best for online marketing? Picking the wrong one can have disastrous consequences. Choosing the wrong one could get your websites completely shut down. Click here to check out our recommendation or click the image to the left.
You also need to understand a little bit about DNS (Domain Name System). Without getting too technical, this is like your business address online. It is the process of converting the human readable names such as www.google.com into what the computers on the Internet use to find that name like 184.108.40.206 or what is known as an IP address.
This is how the whole Internet works. Without having some understanding of what this means can cause your website to not work at all.
You Need a Webhost
You also need to have a server to host your website. These are called webhosts. Just like the domain registrar mentioned above, picking the wrong one could have dire consequences. Click here to check out our recommendation or click the graphic to the right..
Don’t always go for the cheapest or the ones with great reviews. Many of those reviews come from people with very simple static websites, that are more like online brochures rather than fully functional websites with active content and user interaction. Not the stuff you need to run an online business on. Many are cheap because they lack a lot of important features and functionality needed to operate a business on.
What is WordPress?
Most marketers as well as many major mainstream companies build their websites on the wildly popular open source CMS (Content Management Solution) WordPress. WordPress sites are probably the best and simplest solution for the majority of online marketers to build their websites on. The great thing about WordPress is it’s FREE! WordPress also has a slew of add on software programs that generate most of the functionality of WordPress websites. These software programs are known as plugins.
Plugins enhance the power and functionality of WordPress providing a myriad of functionality. Many of these programs or plugins are also FREE, but there are many others that cost money but some are very powerful and enhance WordPress’ functionality in some way.
Although WordPress and many of its plugins are free or very inexpensive, there is a little bit of a learning curve with it as well. There are many FREE tutorials about how WordPress works on YouTube. Just search for WordPress tutorials.
Then there are sometimes other programs that run independently of WordPress. These are called scripts. They can provide a lot of functionality and can enhance an online business, such as forum scripts, lead capture programs and many others. But many scripts require a little bit of technical savvy to install and configure properly.
You need to be concerned about website security. There are a lot of bad people online that love nothing better than hacking websites. These are evil people, hell bent on taking down as many websites as they can regardless of how new or old they are and regardless of how popular they are.
A lot of people don’t want to be bothered with securing their websites thinking, “It won’t happen to me. I’m too small to bother with. Nobody would mess with me. I have nothing they would want”. It’s people who believe that, who are easy victims for these fiends. They will deface you site for fun and or setup what’s known as spam bots that will send out spam from your web host possibly getting your website shut down.
If you are interested in a program that shows you how to secure your WordPress website properly click here or click on the image to the right to check out Blog Defender. The best training on the subject at a very affordable price.
The Money is in the List
If you’ve been a marketer for more than day you’ve most likely heard the old adage that says, “The money is in the list”. And that is so true, but how do you get a list? Where do you store the subscribers? How do you follow up with your leads? How do you send out an online newsletter? To accomplish this and more you need what is called an Autoresponder Services. There are many out there, please see our recommendations for the best ones for online marketers.
Autoresponders take a lot of the load off when it comes to managing your list, but they can be a bit challenging technically to setup and use. Aweber and GetResponse are the best solution for marketers that we have found. GetResponse offers a 30 day free trial and Aweber offers a $1 for a 30 day trial. Both are industry standards. Click either of the graphics on the left to have a look at their offerings. However either one is a good choice.
So as you can see there is a lot of technical stuff involved in setting up and running your online empire. Unless you have a technical background much of what has been described here can be a bit overwhelming. Especially to those who do not have a firm grasp of these technologies.
